The ThinPave™ 5500 Overlay Density Gauge is the latest innovation from InstroTek, purpose-built for accurate nuclear density testing of thin asphalt and concrete overlays. Designed by the inventors of the original thin-layer

 gauge, the ThinPave 5500 delivers reliable, repeatable results across an industry-leading measurement range of 0.5 to 4 inches (12.5–100 mm).

Engineered for today’s thin lift applications, the ThinPave 5500 features a 13% smaller base footprint, reducing surface contact and minimizing the influence of surface roughness on density readings. This design not only improves measurement reliability but also makes the gauge easier to handle and transport in the field.

A fully enclosed source assembly prevents material intrusion. It eliminates the need for routine cavity cleaning, while an improved source indexing and shutter design enhances the repeatability of both standard counts and field measurements. The gauge meets ASTM D2950, AASHTO T355, and other applicable ASTM and AASHTO standards.
